Ego documents publications competition 2025

The Jewish Museum and Tolerance Center and the Publishing House “Kuchkovo Pole”
announce an open competition for academic research financing
within the framework of the program “Translation and publication of ego documents in the field of history and culture of the Jews in the Russian Empire and the USSR” in 2025

Program conditions:
• The financing amount: up to Program conditions:
• The financing amount: up to 700 thousand rubles;
• Project implementation period: up to 1 year;
• Program purpose: publication of previously unpublished or published in foreign languages ego documents created by the Jews in the Russian Empire or the USSR, or by Jewish emigrants;
• Participants: copyright holder, or scientific editor, translator; legal entities (only if are ready to assist in obtaining translation rights, if the text has already been published);
• The document should include topics and issues relevant to Russian Jewry;
• The document must be written in Russian, Yiddish, English, German or Hebrew;
• We provide financing to cover the costs of the translator's fee (up to 14,000 rubles per 1 author’s sheet), the fee to the scientific editor (up to 8,000 rubles per 1 author’s sheet), writing the preface and comments (up to 12,000 rubles per 1 author’s sheet), the fee to the transcriber and typesetter — by agreement (up to 8 thousand rubles).

Applications for participation are accepted until April 3, 2025 electronically in the Google forms format via the link. You can submit in both Russian and English.

Announcement of the results of the competition: April 25, 2025.

Expected results: a text prepared for publication with an introductory article and comments.

The applications of the participants will be evaluated by members of the Research Center’s expert committee, and the Director General of the Publishing House “Kuchkovo Pole” according to the criteria:

relevance and significance of the project for the Jewish studies in Russian;
compliance of the declared financing with the project aims;
the applicant's previous academic results.
The manuscript will be published after it has been submitted and accepted by the expert committee.
